Lake Worth Beach Fishing Charters: Sailfish Season Is Almost Here

Palm Beach County is sailfish country, and the season is close. From about November through March, each cold front that comes down the coast pushes sailfish south along the edge of the Gulf Stream, right off Lake Worth Beach, Lantana and Boynton Beach. On the right day after a front, this is some of the best sailfishing in Florida, and it happens within sight of the beach.

Capt. Nate fishes them the way the local boats do it: live bait, usually goggle-eyes or pilchards, fished from kites or flat lines along the colour change and the bait schools. Sailfish are released; the photo comes first, then the fish goes back in the water healthy. Nothing about this trip is guaranteed, because it is fishing, but the setup is the one that works here.

The trip to book is the Live Bait Sailfish trip, a half day for up to six guests at $600 for the boat. Bring a hat, sunscreen and whatever you want to eat; licence, bait and tackle are covered. If you would rather mix it up, the 3/4 Day Offshore ($720) gives time for sailfish on the edge and a bottom drop for snapper on the way in.

Angle Drop leaves from Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park in Boynton Beach, a short drive from Lake Worth Beach. Pick a date on the booking page, or call or text Capt. Nate at (561) 584-3766 if you want to talk through the day first.
